Robins Egg Blue: The Perfect Color For Spring

Pardon my absence. I have been in my sister’s Sweet 16 sweat shop pumping out over 60 layered and embellished invitations like a machine.

There is something about the color of a Tiffany’s Box that makes a girl’s heart skip a beat. Perhaps that is why so many young women choose it as the color scheme for their showers, weddings, batmitzvah’s and sweet 16’s.

Today, the color, which is popularly knonw as “Tiffany Blue” or “Robin’s Egg Blue”  is becoming more and more popular for not just women, but men and children as well and is perfect for spring.

Here are some of my favorite Tiffany Blue inspired styles this season-

Ruched aqua bathing suite by Jcrew- $82
Nuts Erinite Pierced Earrings by Swarovski– $70

Kids Role Play Style: Cake Boss

Buddy Valastro, Owner of Carlo's Bakery & Star of Cake Boss

When you think of fashion-  kid’s dress up attire may not exactly be the first thing that comes to mind. But, I assure you the look on a child’s face when they transform into their favorite characters with a little dress up can light up a room.  It’s amazing what confidence clothes can bring, even to children- I embrace it.

Since the age of 4, my son has been talking about how he wants to be a Chef. And after watching Buddy Valastro do his thing on Cake Boss that dream of his was made a little more specific.

And for his 6th birthday he has requested a “Cake Boss” themed birthday party. We found a lovely cakery shop near by that is going to host this dream birthday of his, and I have been surfing the web looking to complete his party with accessories that will help him feel just like the real Cake Boss. So this week,  “It’s fashion to me, Baby” {said in my best Buddy voice}.

I thought I would blog it because, who knows- maybe you have a budding Buddy yourself- or maybe you just love Cake Boss.

In either case, here are some accessories I’ve found to complete your Buddy look.

Melissa and Doug Role Play Chef - $22

Melissa  & Doug Chef Puppet – $22

Official Carlo’s Bakery Kids Uniform– $49.95

Oscar 2011 hits, misses and trends

Follow my blog with bloglovin<br>No one wore the Christian Siriano ball gown I so hoped to see on the red carpet at the Oscars this year. In fact, there really weren’t any ball gowns to note at all.

One thing that was note worthy though-

Oscar 2011 Trend #1Nude, Neutrals and Pastels

There were many evening gown in various hues of nude that graced the red carpet. From 15 year old nominee Hailee Steinfeld to 2002 Oscar winner, Halle Berry– skin toned evening gowns were for sure the hottest trend for the 2010 Oscars.

Halle Berry looked nothing short of amazing in her Marchesa gown (Marchesa is one of my faves). The dress was whispy, romantic and well- what doesn’t look good on Halle Berry? …Is there anything?

The tricky part with this trend though, is that not every one can “rock it” –read: Michelle Williams. Michelle looked Casper-like with her light beaded dress that blended in with her powder like skin and platinum colored hair. Whenever there is a trend that you LOVE but is just not flattering for your body type or coloring it’s a little sad. I know because I *love* the dressy shorts with heels look- but I just don’t have the legs. You must accept, appreciate the look on others and move on.

Not all wore light neutrals though, quite a few celebrities donned much brighter, vivid colors which brings me to my next trend.

Oscars 2011 Trend #2 – Bright Oranges and Reds

My favorite of these bright tones was without doubt Jennifer Hudson who showed off her new slimmed down body in a beautiful Tangerine Orange gown from Versace. (Oh! how I wish Weight Watchers Plus would give me that waist line).

Jennifer Lawrence on the other hand (whom I have never heard of), kind of let me down in her red Calvin Klein Dress.  Granted her figure looked amazing, but it’s THE RED CARPET… at THE OSCARS. The dress to me, just looked  like a boring sun-dress version of Pamela Anderson’s Bay Watch uniform.

Oscar 2011 Trend #3 Lace

Mila Kunis embodied classic Hollywood glamor when she stepped out in a beautiful Elie Saab Haute Couture dress. The beautiful lavender chiffon gown was accented with lace and ribbon was by one of my favorites of the night.

My least favorite of the lace dresses? Melissa Leo. The ivory and gold dress just looked like a cheap doily with gold foil wrapping underneath. It looked slightly better when she was up on stage- but still not a favorite.

Oscars 2011 Trend #4 – Shiny, Shine

I’m not a fan of shiny clothes. Shimmer, sparkle- yes. Shiny- NO. And Gwyneth Paltrow and Anne Hathaway both wore shine. While tweeting during the show, @GirlGoneMom said it best when she tweeted “Gwyneth looks like C3P0”.

Later Anne Hathaway came out in a blue plastic looking gown that reminded me of my own “fashion-don’t” moment during my junior prom. I wore a blue plasticy skirt and matching jacket to the after party. I looked like future girl- it was horrid. And harder for me to admit than that story? The fact that Gwyneth’s dress was nicer.

And those were my Oscar fashion highlights.

Best Dressed:                                                  Worst Dressed:

Mila Kunis                                                              Melisssa Leo

Halle Berry                                                             Jennifer Lawrence

Jennifer Hudson                                                   Cate Blanchette

Who were your picks for best and worst dressed?

The Sunday Splurge: Red Carpet Dreams

It’s Oscar night!

And even though it might sound far fetched, I wanted put an official addendum to my splurge rules and let know that you have full permission to go ahead and SPLURGE (x20) on red carpet fashion, especially if it is for the Oscars!

However, you must promise that if you are ever invited to such an event please don’t waste the moment or the splurge by sporting something ridiculous {I know you never would}.

Remember when this dress was a on the worst dress list ?

The world was horrified at the  faux “dead swan” hanging from Bijork’s neck.

Fast forward 5 short years and not only did the woman who wore dresses made of ACTUAL dead cattle meat and decapitated Kermit The Frogs make best dress lists, but she was named VOGUE’S BEST DRESSED WOMAN OF 2010! (Poor Bjork. She was ahead of her time)

I know, its confusing – but No matter how “on trend’ you feel it is, trust me- in years to come you will look back at it with the same disgust you do when you look back at your hair styles in the 80’s.

All due respect to Lady Gaga and her movement of self expression but I look forward to Oscar night to see the incredibly beautiful over the top dresses Carrie Bradshaw would wear to some random cocktail party-

Good Gawd, Carrie is missed.

I look forward to the red carpet because I dream of wearing a big expensive gown like that somewhere– anywhere.

This year I would love to see someone in this Christian Siriano gown from Fashion Week because until I am invited to The Oscars, I need to live vicariously through someone else.

What would you splurge on for Oscars big night?

The Perfect Off The Shoulder Tee

We can all agree that it feels good to look good, but when we are staying at home with the kids and working from home- its so easy to fall into the “comfy clothing’ rut. I am especially guilty of this during the winter months when I literally don’t have to go anywhere but to the bus stop and back. Who wants to get dressed when you can work in your PJs?

But its a bad habit to get into. And as crazy as it sounds- it kills my productivity. However, there is such a thing as a “cute but comfy” look and one of my newest loves-  is the off the shoulder tee. They go with jeans or sweats and instantly give a stylish twist to comfy “going no where” attire.

Below are some off the shoulder tee shirts under $50

Basic Roll Sleeve Boyfriend Top by ASOS– $17.93
Layer Off Shoulder T-Shirt by ASOS – $35.86
Chaser Heart of California Bubble Top – $34
Off The Shoulder Tee by Juicy Couture – $34.99
Off the Shoulder Ruffle Top by Arden B– $29
Off-Shoulder Dolman by Alloy– $24.90

(If you like this style- check out my suggestions for Zumba inspired styles here.)

You Be The Judge: Lindsay Lohan & The White Court Dress Faux Pas

When Lindsay Lohan walked into court earlier this week sporting a white form fitting Kimberly Ovitz dress, people were all a buzz and found the starlet guilty of a fashion faux pas!

A white mini dress to court?… Oh, the insanity!

We are completely shocked by a girl who last made headlines with her court manicure. (insert eye roll)

And the irony of wearing an expensive pure white dress to court after stealing a $2,500 necklace? NOT. LOST. ON. US! Don’t worry Lindz, your message was heard (Not necessarily believe, but heard).

Many say that the dress could have lost her points with the judge who told her “You’re no different than anyone else so please don’t push your luck” but we just have to ask, doesn’t the fact that she actually paid for the dress (or at least didn’t steal it) win her a point or two for being on the road to becoming a changed woman? (Hollywood bad girls crack us up)

But whether you were flawed at her attire or really weren’t that shocked…. One thing is for sure The Lin-fluence still ran rampant- selling out this highly controversial ($500) dress  in boutiques all over in just hours.

Who says there is such a thing as bad press? We’re thinking of giving Lindsay “Complicated Fashion” sweat pants to wear to court next time.

What do you think?

Last night’s Modern Family reminded me of the hilarious Valentine’s day episode last year- where Claire went nude under a trench to spice things up- & then gets caught on the mall escalator. (Did you see that one?… If not, google it!)
